Eyes contain part of your brain

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retina wrote: In vertebrate embryonic development, the retina and the optic nerve originate as outgrowths of the developing brain, so the retina is considered part of the central nervous system (CNS) and is actually brain tissue.[1][2] It is the only part of the CNS that can be visualized non-invasively.

??? The nerves in your leg meet those categories too. I don't see anyone claiming that the legs are part of your brain.

Technically not. The nerves in your leg come from a different branch of neural development, whereas the nerves in the retina are an outgrowth from the same stuff (brain vesicles) that become the forebrain.

Yes, if we rewind far enough back then everything shares origins, but at a significantly notable juncture the retina is more closely linked to being brain tissue than say, the spinal cord. It's been over a decade since I studied neurology but wikipedia to the rescue.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neural_development

It's semantics. It just happens that an accepted way of identifying what is "brain" is by how it forms in development.

If we go back far enough, then humans start as an asshole and work outwards from there. We all start as assholes. And some people remain as such for their entire lives!

So, daylight savings rolls around again... are people aware the war actually finished? I believe it was some time ago, in fact. In the eighties or something.

Why do children put their shoes on the wrong feet?

One of two options:

A] They don't understand that shoes have handedness footedness chirality. A left shoe and a right shoe seem interchangeable, and they don't haven't developed the habit of checking which is which.

B] They understand that left shoes and right shoes are different, but thought it would be/feel interesting to put them on the wrong feet and walk around like.

Personally, for a long time I knew that they were different, but was not exactly sure how to tell which was which at a glance.

Same here.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

See, I've sat down and talked to my son about foot curvature and shoe shape. I've talked to him about which way the velcro straps go. I've written L and R in the bottom of his shoes. I've talked to him about putting the shoe designs on the outside so everyone can see them. We've talked about how shoes feel when you put them on the right feet and when you put them on the wrong feet. Yet still, this morning, he put his shoes on the wrong feet. He doesn't get it wrong a random 50% of the time like you'd expect. It's every damn time. It's so consistent that the best advice I've given him seems to be to put his shoes like he thinks they should be, then switch them.

My son has a memory like a trap. He can usually figure things out in one or two conversations. But he can handle reading and subtraction better than the footedness of shoes. And he's not the only kid that does this. It's just weird.

Me too. When my 4 year old does similar shenanigans I can tell he's choosing the wrong shoe to be silly.

Ehhh... When he's being silly, he's seeking attention - he does it when I'm looking, so to speak. This is not that. He'll put his shoes on by himself in the other room and go about his day like he got it right without any interference from me or Ess.

Apparently, though, I'm not the only person who's asked this because poking around Google has given me all sort of crazy answers from kid has dyslexia, to autism, to children are incapable of distinguishing the footedness of shoes because they're eyes/brains aren't fully developed yet, to they're mirroring what they see adults do, to kids' feet are shaped differently. They all smell of BS, none of them are grounded in anything approaching a fact, and so I'm just chalking it up to one of the unsolved mysteries of the universe.

Is there an equivalent to the chrome extension SOcial Fixer.

Social Fixer was (still is in many ways) a great extension that modified facebook by removing sponsored stories, letting me track if people defriended me or deleted their accounts and has a nice tabbed browsing options where you can divide who you see on what page.

The wrong foot thing can be because he's had shoes explained from the perspective of someone facing him. When he plays it back internally, it gets rotated to his perspective and ends up crossed.

It's like how left and right are weird in a mirror. If you explain "left and right" to someone while facing them, they'll normally get it wrong, because you're pointing to your right when you say left, and they learn by rotating the action and copying it.

You know, I've been reading a lot of old threads and this occurred to me:

The Nifty Message Board and The Gaming Den sure had a fuckton of fascists on these boards. Not like, generic right-wing jerks like tzor but actual fascists who agreed to the major tenets outlined in that one Italian paper. You know, like Gx, Psychic Robot, Elennsar, Arturick...

Is there just something about TTRPGs or TGD specifically that attracts fascists? I mean what the fucking fuck?

Your freedom to add and change rules in the middle of the game is in direct conflict with my ability to understand that rules system before I decided whether or not to join your game.

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

It's vaguely possible that there's something about tabletop games attracting intellectual people who prefers gordian knot cutting, which facism often includes.

Can someone explain what Fascism is -really- about?

It's sort of lost most meaning as a term, just like socialism and communism. They have so much history and baggage to them that it's hard to find an accurate definition of what it was really meant to do.

But funnily enough, I trust you guys on stuff like this.

So what's it about? What's the beliefs and goals?

It's a militaristic ultra-nationalist movement, in which the state holds supreme power for the advancement of whatever the particular facist movement considers the "correct" ethnicity.
